Worlds Tallest Unsupported Flagpole in Calipatria
This is a short post as there isn’t a lot to say about this spot other than that I like stopping at weird fun things like this, so I had to see it myself. In the small town of Calipatria, there is a massive flagpole. It is so big that you can see it when driving from as far as 3 miles south. It has a plaque that says it is the world’s largest, and I can honestly say that I have never seen a flagpole bigger, so there is that. Here is all the information from when I visited in 2017.
Here is the plaque that resides under it. It is pretty crazy that the entire city is below sea level as well.
The flagpole itself is located in a small park and is surrounded by nautical themed anchors. I am not sure why, but it must have to do with the sea level fact.
I liked standing at its base and looking up. From this angle, you really couldn’t even see the flag as it was so far away.
If I didn’t have a wide-angle lens, I doubt I could have fit it all in without walking a block back.
After about 5 minutes, I was on to my next Salton Sea adventure, but if you are in the area, you might as well stop by and see it, right? Let me know what you think in the comments.
