Universal Studios Hollywood at Christmas: Five Things to Do
Universal Studios Hollywood is one of the most popular attractions for people to visit while in Los Angeles. I really enjoy going to the park as there are a lot of fun rides and attractions ranging from the Harry Potter Wizarding World to the Studio Tour. The reason for this post though is to share what the park has in terms of Christmas attractions. December is a great time to visit the park, and here are some of our favorite stops. Let us know what we left off in the comments.

Here is a video of Amie and I’s last visit to the park for Christmas as well.
Getting There
The park is located right next to Universal City Walk in the north part of Hollywood. You can’t miss it as the area is vast, and there is a large parking structure on the east end. The cost was $27 a car when we went in 2019. After parking, you simply walk through Universal City Walk, and you will be at the entrance for the park.
1. Who-bilation Tree Lighting
The park goes all out for Christmas, with most of the decorations relating to the Jim Carry “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” movie. At night they have a “who-biliation” where the Who’s from Whoville put on a show about the Grinch with a tree lighting. It is only 5 minutes long, and it is an excellent end to the day.
2. Meet the Grinch and Max
In the middle of the park, near the giant Christmas tree that I mentioned above, you can stand in line to get a picture with the Grinch or his dog Max. It is fun because the Grinch is a crack up and interacts with everyone while they take photos. Amie and I liked Max the best though, as he was an adorable dog with his antler on his head.
3. Interact with Other Characters
Not to be overshadowed by the Grinch and Max, many other famous characters like Shrek and Donkey also dress up. Shrek has an ugly Christmas sweater and is usually walking around the park and posing for pictures.
4. Wizarding World of Harry Potter Light Show
Hogsmeade and Hogwarts are great spots to visit any time of year, but at Christmas, the buildings are lined with snow, and Hogwarts Castle has an awesome projection show at the end of the night. This is one of the main reasons to come to Universal Studios during Christmas, and it is well worth it.
5. Explore the Parks Decorations and Try the Treats
I am partial to a donut when I visit the park, so I am always excited to try the Grinch donut that they have at Christmas time. They also have different food items at the Three Broomsticks as well during Christmas. Lastly, the park has all sorts of Christmas displays like Santa hats on the bronze film crew in the front, Christmas trees up and down main street, and snow on many of the buildings. Our last recommendation is just to walk around and take it all in.
Also, don’t forget about the City Walk as well, there are some fun Christmas attractions there, such as the Christmas donuts at Voodoo.
As you can see, Universal is a great spot to explore during the Christmas season. Let me know if I left off one of your favorite suggestions in the comments.
